Attending the Snowdonia MAM meet in November 2018 were four members of Worcester Climbing Club. Ian, John and Dave are also members of MAM and Dawn is currently a prospective member. It was great to meet them and spend time with them at the meet, particularly on the Saturday evening.
Ian recounts what they got up to over the weekend:
‘On the Saturday, me (Ian), John, Dawn and Dave, went into Cwm Llafar from Bethesda and walked up to do the Llech Ddu grade 1 scramble. A sneaky easy path gains the main ridge above the impressive crag of Llech Ddu and the scramble above is very interesting although with modest technicalities. Being on the North side of the Carneddau, we stayed in shadow during the scramble. The view down Cwm Llafar, however, revealed Anglesey in bright November sunlight with Holyhead Mountain very clear in the far distance. On finishing the ridge we walked into bright sunshine on Carnedd Dafydd summit and took the traditional summit photos. Then on to Pen yr Ole Wen and an easy descent back to Glan Dena.
The communal meal on Saturday night went really well with everyone producing food and mucking in with the washing up! If Clare Lubrano offers you any of her homemade rhubarb crumble, don’t refuse! I had seconds and was allowed to scrape out the bowl as well!
On Sunday the four of us (see above) had a short day walking around Vivian Quarry in Llanberis. If you like industrial history it’s well worth a visit. There is even a street of houses built for the quarry workers. We had superb views over Lyn Padarn and the Snowden massif.
We really enjoyed meeting with the Solihull members. It’s so easy to get on with like minded people and I do hope some will consider joining MAM.
Best wishes to all of you,
Ian Tadman (MAM & Worcester MC)’
