Pembroke has brilliant, world-class sea cliff climbing, but its distance from Birmingham means we don’t always schedule a trip there..
This time, 14 of us did make the effort, camping at Bosherton, and had another excellent weekend. Most of us climbed, but a few of us enjoyed the scenery with cliff top walks, with Phil and Helen having a diving day too.
On the cliffs, Donna and Richard worked their way through the grades up to VS on a string of climbs at Saddle Head. A few brave and talented souls ventured into Huntsman’s Leap, where Mark continued to push his grade with an E2 on-sght, The Beast From the Undergrowth, with several teams climbing a range of routes in the popular and accessible St Govans area.
Sunday night took us to the St Govans Inn, and a cosy evening with 14 of us seated round a table for 8. Some linguistic confusion resulted from ordering Cawl (tasty thick stew ) instead of Cwrw (frothy tasty beer).
Suitably refreshed, a couple of teams took advantage of the early low tide and warm sun on Monday morning and ventured to Mowing Word in search of abseil descents to wave-washed hanging belays, successfully tackling Snozwanger at E1 and Chimes of Freedom at E2. Guest climber Mike headed back to Huntsmans Leap with Ian, pushing through on Bloody Sunday, an E4 he’d had in his sights for a while.
