As many of you know we organise an annual ski trip in Europe which are always well attended and fabulous fun, whether or not you can ski or snowboard.
For the 2018 trip, an apartment has been booked in St Jean D’Aulps, which is part of the massive Portes Du Soleil ski area. This is arguably the largest linked ski area in the world, offering 650km of ski runs. This will be the third season we’ve been out there, and the second time we have stayed in St Jean D’Aulps.
Last time we met Simon and Cassie West, a young couple who sold up in the UK, bought a luxury chalet in St Jean and are now offering a full ski package holiday, including collection to and from Geneva airport, full breakfast, afternoon tea and cake, full four course dinner with wine and very plush bedrooms, some with ensuite, a spacious, comfy lounge and a sauna and hot tub. They have 5 bedrooms and can take 10 people in comfort. Pictures of the chalet can be found on their website http://alpineactionadventures.co.uk/
The date on offer is Saturday 10th March to Saturday 17th March 2018. We’ve picked this date as it’s the first week after the French school holidays, so the slopes will be less busy.
The price of the Chalet is €4725 which will be divided between those attending. So far there are seven of us.
The offer does not include flights. These you need to book yourselves, Easyjet offer flights from Birmingham to Geneva, which at the moment are £45 (Departs 15:40 from B’Ham on 10th), £34 (Departs 09:45 from Geneva on 17th) and £37 for 20kg of hold luggage.
Simon and Cassie will arrange collection to and from the airport, lift passes, ski/boot hire and, lessons if required (all extra charges), all delivered to the chalet, so you’d be ready to go.
The only other thing to mention is that there are over 100 bolted climbing routes of all standards on a crag 2 minutes walk from the chalet, so bring your climbing gear for possible evening or night climbing. There are also several via ferrata routes, some on the same crag, and others about 30 minutes walk up the hill. Those up the hill are graded ‘red’ and ‘black’ and give the most amazing exposed via ferrata climbing. Bring your lanyard as well!
If you can’t ski, it doesn’t matter, you can have lessons once you get there. However, if you’ve never skied before, beginner lessons at somewhere like Ackers in Birmingham or the Snowdome in Tamworth before you go are recommended. That way you’ll be able to go into an intermediate class, get high up on the lifts and get some real skiing in!
